Submitting a complaint to Internal Affairs
 
 
A complaint to be evaluated by the Internal Affairs Division of the Piscataway Township Police Department may be submitted by anyone including anonymous sources, juveniles, undocumented immigrants and persons under arrest or in custody and regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, immigration status or preference for anonymity.

For your convenience, follows are information sheets known as "IAPP Appendix A: Sample Civilian Complaint Information Sheets" and complaint forms known as "IAPP Appendix B: Sample Internal Affairs Report Forms" from the New Jersey Attorney General's office in eleven languages:

You may submit a completed complaint report form to InternalAffairs@PiscatawayNJ.org, bring it in person to PTPD headquarters or mail it to:

Investigations Can Have the Following Outcomes

Unfounded:

The investigation indicates that the act or acts complained of did not occur or did not involve Piscataway Township Police Officer.

Exonerated:

Acts did occur but were justified, lawful and proper within the policies and procedures established by the Piscataway Township Police Department.

Not Sustained:

Investigation fails to discover sufficient evidence to prove or disprove clearly the allegations made in the complaint.

Sustained:

Investigation disclosed evidence sufficient to prove clearly the allegations made in the complaint.

The primary objective of internal investigations is to protect the integrity and reputation of the police department, to protect the public and to protect the accused employee from unjust accusations.
